7-12-22   THOUGHTS

In Jesus’  teaching in the sermon on the mount, the APPLICATION is so close to the actual TEACHING that it becomes uncomfortable even as we read.  Jesus exposes our human weaknesses quickly, one at a time.  It is obvious that he knows our human NATURE well.  Jesus is trying to turn the people He will die to save, into citizens of the Kingdom He will transfer them into!    We are told to “have the mind of Christ.”  1Cor 2:16, Php 2:5   As we ponder the narrow gate idea, we must consider not only what we do, but our very “CLOSENESS TO GOD!”

Matt 7:1-14    "Do not judge so that you will not be judged.  2  "For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you. 3  "Why do you look at the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye?
4  "Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ and behold, the log is in your own eye? 5  "You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye. 6  "Do not give what is holy to dogs, and do not throw your pearls before swine, or they will trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces. 7  "Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 8  "For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. 9  "Or what man is there among you who, when his son asks for a loaf, will give him a stone? 10  "Or if he asks for a fish, he will not give him a snake, will he?  11  "If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give what is good to those who ask Him! 12  "In everything, therefore, treat people the same way you want them to treat you, for this is the Law and the Prophets.  13  "Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter through it.  14  "For the gate is small and the way is narrow that leads to life, and there are few who find it.

Matt 5:6    "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.
Matt 6:33    "But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

My Prayer:
O God who saves our souls, hallowed be your name.  Humble us,  that You may lift us up.  You have given us your mind in Word and Spirit, please write it on our hearts.  Our abiding in Your presence, O Lord, is so needful.  Grant us a closer walk with you.  May our desire and zeal be multiplied,  that we might partake of the joy of your salvation.  Bless us to finding and walking in that narrow path.  In the name of our Savior,     Amen.
